GENEVA-ON-THE-LAKE, Ohio (April 15, 2009) Based on the popularity of its inaugural Kids Grape Camp in 2008, The Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake is offering families even more opportunities in 2009 to scour a local vineyard in search of scavenger hunt clues, enjoy grape stories by a roaring campfire...all the while learning about the Northeast Ohio grape industry. A unique family experience the whole family will love, Kids Grape Camps are scheduled for June 25-26, July 23-24 and August 20-21.

Upon arrival at The Lodge on Thursday afternoon, families will be treated to a welcome reception at 5:30 pm, followed by a pizza dinner. Guests are invited to participate in a grape tasting to learn the differences between grape varieties and their juices.

Families can then enjoy smores and campfire stories along the Lake Erie shoreline. The evening's featured book is "The Grapes Grow Sweet," a tale about a four-year-olds dream of his grape growing family working together to harvest their vineyard. The book takes readers through the "seasons of the vine," from winter's dormancy and spring's promise to summer's ripening fruit and fall's harvest.

While touring Ohio's largest estate winery, Grape Camp participants will learn about different types of grapes and how they're grown and harvested in Northeast Ohio. GENEVA-ON-THE-LAKE, Ohio (February 2009) – This spring, The Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake’s Executive Chef Stephen Gary will launch the 2009 culinary class overnight package series with Seafood and Shellfish on March 27 -28; Love of the Land on April 24 -25; and Soups, Stocks, Sauces, Dressings and Vinaigrettes on May 15 -16.

"Faced with a challenging economy, people who have enjoyed dining out frequently are opting to do more of the cooking themselves. Our culinary classes are designed to meet the needs of those who don’t have time for extensive preparation, are looking to create comfort foods with flair, but still keep within their budgets," Chef Gary explains.

"Making sure our menu was value-priced for our customers was very important," said Chef Gary. "For example, we kept several long-time favorites on the menu, such as the Lake Erie Walleye, but added a small house salad with each while reducing the price," Gary notes. Entrée prices range from $12 to $18.

"At the same time, new menu items such as the grilled chicken breast with andouille and mushroom jambalaya, as well as Italian herb seared sea scallops with basil pesto are popular among those looking to try something a bit different without deviating too far from what we grew up eating," he says.

Some long-time favorites, such as pork tenderloin with creamy polenta and ever-popular grilled salmon are among the hearty, simpler dishes that customers enjoy. Sandwiches, salads and soup are also available for both lunch and dinner to give Horizons customers a full array of menu selections.

The Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake’s Executive Chef Stephen Gary will answer these questions and many more when he hosts "Uncovering the Secrets to a Perfect Meat Dish," a new hands-on culinary class on meat preparation and cooking techniques Friday, Oct. 31 to Nov. 1.

"While beef, pork, veal, lamb and game meats are some of the most enjoyed entrees in the world, many people don’t know how to maximize flavor and tenderness," said Gary.
